The Balboa Yacht Club is the must-go-to place for seeing exceptional wooden hull boats on the West Coast, Saturday, June 6, 2015, including the tall ship 139-foot schooner America–replica of the first winner of the America’s Cup. The one-day event is free to the public.
Boats of all shapes and sizes will be displayed in the water and on land from 10 am to 4 pm at the waterfront club. Contenders for the for best-in-class Peoples Choice awards and top trophy winners include new, restored, preserved, home-built and replica boats. Feast your eyes on exceptional kayaks, canoes, runabouts, sailboats, powerboats, steam launch, and skiffs from 3 feet to 80 feet and over. Owners will proudly tell you about their vessel’s history and the effort that went into her care.
Swing music by the Dave Stephens band will put a spring in your step as you enjoy looking at Models by Duffy and marine artwork by Scott Kennedy, Lorelle Miller, Laguna Beach Festival of Art artists, Kerry Rutherford and Gary Miltimore. Photographs from Balboa Gallery will display many perspectives of life at sea. Lyndsey Philpott, the “Knot Guy,” is back by popular demand; Challenge America and Western Marine Marketing have booths for the first time.
Tickets for an outdoor BBQ will be sold, and the Orange County Sheriff Harbor Department is having an open house in celebration of its 40th Anniversary. Tickets are available for $75 for an adult, $44 per youth under 16 years old to on one of two afternoon sails on America from 1-3:30 pm or 5-7:30 pm.
