The Colnett, Owned By Steve Farwell & Bunker Hill
NEWPORT BEACH - June 6, 2015
The Second Annual Balboa Yacht Club Wooden Boat Festival attracted people by boat, kayak, paddleboard, shuttle and foot for a look at 42 exceptional wooden boats, ocean sailing on schooner America, marine art and even rope tying. Classic Yacht Association, Wooden Hull Yacht club and Challenged Sailors San Diego were represented and over 2,000 people from throughout California enjoyed the exhibitions, food and boats kept lively by the Dave Stephens Swing Band.
Over 1,000 attendees voted for the People’s Choice in 6 categories:
Harbor Master Lieutenant Mike Jansen gave Jim Busby the Best Power Boat trophy for Four Bells, a 1955 Rybovich 26 foot Sport Fisher. Commodore Gary Davidson presented the BYC Commodore’s Award to Black Cloud owner Don Schaffner for Best Sailboat. The Thistle #313 was built in 1959 and sails only on the lake in Mission Viejo. And, the Best of Show went to the 55-foot Stephens Kail Ezra owned by Kevin Roberg. Newport Beach Mayor Ed Selich did the honors. Each of the three special award winners received a hand-crafted trophy by Robert Kingaard and a watch from Black, Starr & Frost.
The Third Annual BYC Wooden Boat Festival will be on Saturday, June 4, 2016. Already people are talking about entering their boats since the field is limited. News and photos are on Facebook and www.bycwoodenboatfestival.com

Those heels are no good on boat decks. It’s bare feet or boating shoes only when boarding the yachts. It’s a great opportunity to go shopping for Super Cute Boat Shoes!
Black sole shoes leave scuff marks. Wear proper boat shoes or expect to take off those hard soles before boarding each boat.
