Inaugural Opening Night
You are cordially invited to be a part of history on Friday June 7th at the Inaugural Opening Night Preview for the 2024 Newport Beach Wooden Boat Festival. This year’s theme The Art and Craft of the Wooden Boat will be on full display. The evening will provide the opportunity to have first viewing of the best of this year’s curated collection of amazing wooden boats along with a greatly expanded set of artistic, historic and educational exhibits. Cocktail/business attire preferred.

Maritime Extravaganza
Your evening will begin with an ambassador’s welcome on the red carpet entry flanked by a dazzling display of wonderfully handcrafted runabout boats. With a craft cocktail and appetizer in hand you’ll continue on to be among the first to board the magnificent replica of the famed sail ship America with time to revel in her majesty and storied history. Under the glow of twinkle lights on the dock you’ll be able to take an up-close look at a specially curated collection of this year’s visiting boats open for touring.

Meet the stars of this year’s festival while getting a sneak peek at the opening of 2024’s festival highlights including the Model Boat and Bare Boat Hull Exhibits. The Featured Craftsman exhibit will include the stunning inlaid wood kayaks of Master Craftsman David Lake that Wooden Boat Magazine calls “floating canvases of art”. You’ll also not want to miss a chance to meet the festival’s Featured Artist - Kim Gordon who has created the cover art for this year’s program and hear how she has organized a very special group of Plein Air artists to capture the event on Saturday.
Culinary Culmination
The evening will culminate in a wine paired dinner, live music and a lively auction of unique on-the-water experiences (a harbor cruise with champagne and caviar in a Venetian Water taxi anyone? maybe your next vacation on a distant sea?) With a few surprises up our sleeve, including the unveiling of David Lake’s latest creation, it will be an evening to remember!
