David Lake

Dave has been a high school shop teacher near Richland for thirty years. With a major in technology education and an interest in all things woodworking, Dave believes his career has been a natural progression to helping young people develop their own interest in creativity, craftsmanship and completion.

In 2019 Dave discovered his passion for the craft of boat building when he began building kit kayaks for his wife and daughters. He soon realized wood-strip construction with the hand inlaid detail he adds could open an artistic door to boats that tell stories. In fact, it's been said that Dave began building boats not just with art on them, but boats that are art.

"Too beautiful to put in the water" is a common reaction from people who see his boats. He's shown his boats in the Northwest at the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival and has been featured in the November/December WoodenBoat Magazine.

Dave recently completed Montana Wild, an amazing montage of animal wildlife and has another kayak in the works this winter that he'll unveil for the first time at the 2024 Newport Beach Wooden Boat Festival.
