GalateaThis Matthews 38 Sports Sedan was built in Port Clinton, Ohio in 1941 for William M. Passano, the owner of Waverly Press in Baltimore, Maryland. Delivery was taken in Ohio. Pasasno sailed Galatea with his family 1,100 miles through the inland waterways to their home on Gibson Island in the Chesapeake Bay. The trip was chronicled in the February 1942 issue of “The Rudder.” Mr. Passano owned and cared for her for the next 47 years of his life.

In 1988, she was purchased by Tom and Patricia Skahill, and brought to Newport Harbor Yacht Club and renamed her Patrician. After much love and care, the Skahills donated her to Orange Coast College in 2002, and was subsequently acquired by Allen Stewart of Balboa Yacht Club. For the past 12 years, she has been under some state of renovation to return her to her original beauty and name, Galatea. She conjures up a step back in time to fond memories of the 1940’s before World War II began.
